Samsung reveals first serious NX zoom lens: 16-50mm f2-2.8 OIS [and also 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 OIS Power Zoom]
Coming together with the NX30 camera announcement, Samsung also revealed two new lenses for their NX system today. Both are 16-50mm APS-C lenses, but they couldn't be any more different. One is the first "serious" zoom lens in the NX system, it even gets the "S" in its name, while the other is a compact power-zoom. Both are OIS (optically stabilized)... Update: the original post forgot the "zoom" part in "first serious". Thanks to OGL for pointing it out!
The Serious 16-50mm Lens
The serious lens is the 16-50mm f2-2.8 S ED OIS with UPSM (Ultra-Precise Stepping Motor) and 18 elements in 12 groups (three aspherical (ASP) and two extra-low dispersion (ED) and two eXreme High Refractive (XHR)). It also comes an all-you-can-eat acronym buffet. Other specs include 30cm (one foot) minimum focusing distance, 0.19x max-mag, 9 blades, splash-dust-proofness, 72mm filter size, lens hood, and 622g in weight.
The Skinny 16-50mm Lens
The other 16-50mm lens is a compact power-zoom that goes by the name of 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 ED OIS weighing just 111 grams. That's right, one 16-50mm Serious Lens weighs more than five of these skinny power zooms! The filter size is 43mm.
