New Sony Alpha a5000 mirrorless camera with NEX (not SLR) looks for $600

The Sony CEO had the keynote speech tonight at CES 2014, so the Sony announcements are coming later than the other manufacturers. Sony's announcement is headlined by a new APS-C E-Mount mirrorless camera, the Sony Alpha a5000. Despite the "a5000" name, the camera has the previous NEX looks, not the SLR-style of the Alpha a3000. The a5000 also goes by the name of iLCE-5000, just like the a3000 did before.

It has a 20mp APS-C Exmor sensor with Wifi and NFC, 1080 video, up to 4fps, up to 420 shots, BIONZ X image processor, support for both SDXC and MemorySticks, 3-inch LCD (460 kilodots), no EVF, etc. The kit lens for this camera is the collapsible 16-50mm power zoom (SELP1650).

It has a starting price of $600 with a late March 2014 release estimate at Amazon, available for pre-orders in black and silver and white.

Curious about the new camera? How about some hands-on previews at Thephoblographer and also at Engadget. Spec-sheet comparison with other Sony APS-C cameras at CNet at CES.

Back in Black
If you are a fan of the NEX 55-210mm lens but prefer it in black, Sony has now launched it in black, going for $350 with a mid-January 2014 release estimate at Amazon.

New Cybershots
There was also a ping on the Cybershot front, the new Cybershot W830 was revealed, available in multiple colors with a starting price of $140 and a late January 2014 release estimate. It has a 20mp 1/2.x" CCD sensor, 8x optical zoom, 720p video, Zeiss lens branding, 2.7 inch LCD (230 kilodots), etc. Europe is apparently getting an W810 model as well says and India as well per @aafuss.

New Action Cam
Sony has also announced a new action cam, since action cams continue to have a competitive advantage over smartphones since most smartphones are fairly fragile and not shaped for action. The new action cam is the HDR-AS100-V and it goes for $300 with a late February 2014 release estimate. For more extreme situations, Sony has a bundle of this new action camera with a Live View remote for $400. Hands on with this at Engadget and CNet at CES. This is smaller than it looks in product shots.

Meanwhile the previous generation action cam will get two new features thanks to a firmware update says Engadget.

New compact-er 4K video camcorder
If you are a fan of 4K video and compact camcorders, Sony also announced the new FDR-AX100 with a 1-inch Exmor R CMOS sensor and a 2000 euro on that. Detailed coverage on this at Cinema 5D. Hands-on from the trade show at Engadget and CNet at CES and more CNet and even more CNet.

On the more conventional 1080p front, Sony announced seven new Handycam HD camcorders, rounded up at Engadget.
