Fuji jumps on smartphone printing bandwagon with new SP1 smartphone toy printer
Fujifilm has jumped on the smartphone printing bandwagon with the announcement of a new printer designed for smartphone printing. And by that I mean printing pictures from your smartphone to this Fuji printer. Not printing actual smartphones on this Fuji printer. With 3D printing out there, we have to be careful how we word things :)
The printer's name rivals some of the smartphone names of old, it is looong, it is the "instax SHARE Smartphone Printer SP-1". It is more of a toy printer, the maximum image size supported is 640x480. Using Fuji's app, one can send pictures wirelessly from their smartphone to this printer.
With billions of people now having smartphones, this is not a bad gamble for Fuji. They only need a very tiny percentage of all these people to bite (don't bite the film) for this to be successful.
UPDATE: Per the Fuji USA press release this will come out in May 2014 with a starting price of $200. Fashion accessory price?
