Samyang jumps ahead of TamTokSig, announces five new 35mm full frame prime lenses for the Sony E-mount
Samyang continues its attack on the TamTokSig fortress by jumping ahead of them and pre-announcing five new 35mm full frame prime lenses for the Sony E-mount system that got rebooted this week with the launch of the Sony 35mm full frame system.
The five lenses are going to be:
- Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC
- Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS IF UMC
- Samyang T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC
- Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC
- Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC
That's right, that's a T-S as in Tilt-Shift. The other four lenses are currently available in Video format, part of their T-series "VDSLR" for the NEX system. (yes, there is some irony in "VDSLR" and "NEX" but it's an acronym soup out there. What's a lensmaker to do name-wise if they make lenses for almost every system out there :)
Prices have not been revealed yet, but Samyang says these will be available "within two months".
One thing that is holding Samyang back in assailing TamTokSig even harder is that they are selling their lenses under a variety of different brand names, so all the good karma they are getting from happy customers is not coalescing under a single brand.
PS: TamTokSig = Tamron + Tokina + Sigma
