RAW goes Mobile: Nokia announces Lumia smartphone with RAW [also: Lytro-like feature and Instagram for WP]
Apple was not the only one today with splashy announcements. Nokia made history (as far as I can tell) by offering the first smartphones to offer RAW image capture out of the box. With this they are adding more photog-cred to their Lumia line (and one can hope that if the Microsoft deal goes through, Microsoft does not blue-screen their progress).
RAW comes to two Lumia Windows Phone smartphones
The first smartphone to offer RAW support out of the box is the brand new (newly announced today) Nokia Lumia 1520 Windows Phone. It will offer RAW of the DNG variety, so mobile photographers do not have to deal with yet another proprietary RAW format. In addition to the 1520, the currently available (previously announced) Lumia 1020 will receive the RAW option via an update in early 2014 according to the detailed CNet News report.
This new phone is half a tablet, half a phone, with a 6-inch Gorilla Glass 2 1920 x 1080 screen and Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.2 GHz quad-core processor.. It has a 20-megapixel Pureview camera, a Zeiss lens with optical image stabilization, 1.2mp front camera, 2GB main memory, 32GB storage, microSD support up to 64GB, Qi wireless charging, and an unlocked price of $750.
