Sony IMX145 stacked CMOS Exmor-RS sensor found inside new iPhone 5S
Chipworks loves tearing technology down and their iPhone 5S teardown revealed last week that the sensor powering the camera of the new flagship iPhone 5S (model name, not plural) is the Sony IMX145 stacked CMOS Exmor-RS sensor. There is some detailed coverage of the imaging module at the aforelinked article under the "The Cameras" segment.
iPhones continue to be hot commodities, so the mere association with an iPhone is a plus for almost any company out there. Especially a company like Sony that is trying hard to reclaim some of their former glory. Some of their recent announcements (Smartphone Sensor-Lens modules, faux-SLR mirrorless) are definitely steps in the right direction overall, and getting "blessed" by Apple and the iPhone can have a multiplier effect.
Except for people who hate Apple and iPhones with a passion :)
