New Microsoft Surface 2 Pro demoed editing 6K RED RAW footage [updated]
Today Microsoft unveiled their second-generation Surface tablets, headlined by the $900 Surface 2 Pro full Windows tablet. One of the live demos shown at the launch event was editing 6K RED RAW footage. This is no small task. With options going as high as 8GB RAM and 512GB on-board SSD storage, along with a Power Cover extending battery life by 2.5X and a Docking station that supports displays up to 3840 x 2160 (along with mini Display Port and a USB 3.0 port), this may perhaps become a serious possible alternative for photographers on the go.
Pre-orders will begin at The Microsoft Store starting at 8am Eastern on Tuesday 9/24/13.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention this in the original post, but it may come into play later on: along with the usual Touch/Type/Power covers, Microsoft also showed a dedicated music/DJ cover, connecting to the Surface the same way as a regular cover. See it in action at The Verge and Engadget et al.
So this opens the door: what if Microsoft (or third parties) created a dedicated cover for photography tasks? Or going even more specialized, how about a cover dedicated to Photoshop or Lightroom?
