Yahoo buys Startup to help Flickr with Image Recognition and Organization
The Marissa Meyer era at Yahoo is definitely not dull and boring. Yahoo is on a buying spree and last week they bought Flickr a new present. A new start-up company, IQ Engines that specializes in image recognition, organization and search. The start-up's home page switched to a Yahoo-purple ($ironic$?) announcement of the purchase. Flickr could certainly use some help in that department, especially now, in an ever-changing world of platforms and user-interfaces.
This is not the first "gift" Yahoo gave Flickr. Two months ago they bought them GhostBird Software, who, among other things, developed PhotoForge and KitCam. Details via The Verge and The CNet. Ghostbird's announcement did not use the Yahoo purple :)
We are using Flickr to host the Readers Picture Showcase using the Flickr Pool/Groups feature.
