HTC planning a 3-layer sensor with Ultrapixels for next M7 uberphone

Foveon fans may feel some validation today as Pocket Lint writes that HTC will not feature a standard sensor in their new M7 ubersmartphone. Instead it will have "Ultrapixels", which is their marketing speak for a three layer sensor, three layers of 4.3 megapixels each.

Perhaps Foveon + Sigma should have done something like that instead of trying to describe the Foveon sensors in terms of Bayer megapixels. But there you see the difference between the companies. HTC is a mass-market company dealing with millions of consumers. Foveon and Sigma are hiding in their caves building sensors and lenses and are mostly out of touch with the average consumer.
