HP D3000, an HP branded digital camera (16mp, 21x zoom) surfaces online
HP itself exited the digital camera market a long time ago. But since their name has brand name recognition among the casual consumers, they have apparently licensed their brand name, and a new digital camera with an HP logo is now available in the market, it is the HP D3000. The specs and looks are in the ballpark of many other similar cameras, 16mp sensor, 21x optical zoom lens, 3-inch display, four AA power, 720p video (which may suggest CCD sensor), etc. Interestingly, this has PASM according to HP's own listing which may narrow down the list of its "cousins".
How did we find this camera? We accidentally found it while looking at the latest discounts at J&R World, and this was one of them. It is indeed discounted at J&R World going for $140. Its "normal price" is around $200.
This is an official HP camera, you can find at the HP Home & Home Office Store. HP indeed stands for Hewlett Packard.
Other retailers carrying it are 3rd-parties at Amazon (not Amazon herself) and Rakuten.com (aka Buy.com) and Adorama and QVC and HSN. The two home shopping networks perhaps point to the target audience of this camera.
