Even Musicians Fight Over Pictures: Bowie vs Morrissey over cover art
Picture usage conflicts are not just with big companies trying to milk photographers for free work. It also happens among creatives and in this case, two critically acclaimed musicians, David Bowie and Morrissey have an album cover art dispute over a photo of the two of them that Morrissey was planning to use on a re-issued record. Bowie does not have the rights to the photograph, but he is apparently pulling rank within the record label (EMI) to block it from being used. It is unknown whether he signed a release for the photo in the first place :) The photo was taken by Linder Sterling in 1992. Story at Pitchfork.com and Morrissey Fan Site and BuzzFeed.
