Insanity: Fifty-three (53) new digital cameras announced in 2013 so far! [recalc #2]
Yes, dear readers. We did it! Break out the champaign! It is only January 7 and yet, we have fifty-three (53) new digital cameras announced in 2013! You can find them all through the New Cameras of 2013 reference page (bookmark it!)
This alone may perhaps be an indicator of some of the problems and issues with the digital camera industry?
Of the fifty-three, six are interchangeable lens cameras: three Polaroids, Nikon J3 and S1, Samsung NX300. The Nikon D5200 was already officially announced in November 2012 so we don't count it as a 2013 camera.
Of the remaining 47 fixed lens digital cameras, 24 of them have a zoom ratio of 10x or more. That's more than half of them. The fear of the smartphone is causing zoom ratios to grow! Of the 24 superzooms, 18 of them have a zoom ratio of 18x or more.
Of the fixed lens digital cameras, six of them offer RAW, so that's a good sign. Five of the fixed lens cameras with RAW come from Fuji though (X100S and X20 and three superzooms) and the newcomer in the field, Pentax MX-1.
