Adobe News: stricter upgrade policy next year (also: Creative Cloud for Teams launched)
The Adobe Creative Cloud has not been greeted as a liberator by photographers (just look at various photography forums and blogs), but Adobe is doubling down on the Creative Cloud with a new offering, the Creative Cloud for Teams. This new Cloud offering has a subscription rate of $70 per user per month. However, owners of CS3 or later will get an upgrader rate, $50 per user per month. This is only good until December 31, 2012 because...
... because starting January 1st, 2013, Adobe will be more strict in their upgrade qualifications. Only the owners of the most recent version will qualify for the upgrade prices. Based on the current situation, starting 1/1/2013, only CS5 and CS5.5 owners will be eligible for upgrader pricing. So if you have CS3 or CS4, and are interested in upgrading, check the Adobe Store for options _before_ December 31st, 2012.
Needless to say, Adobe is able to get away with all these because they are essentially the only game in town. Sure, there are plenty of desktop and online imaging editors and suites, but none of them has been able to break through among the professionals/digital-creatives.
On the good news front, Ligthroom 4 (full version) along with a free Kelby Training Crash Course DVD is down to $100 at B&H Photo. Free item will be included automatically by B&H. This is a limited time promotion.
