Can we blame internet shopping for Thanksgiving being earlier than usual? Well, not directly. But we can blame/thank the internet's predecessors instead, the brick and mortar stores. Thanksgiving used to be the last Thursday of the month, but the fear of a shortened Holiday shopping season during the Great Depression in 1939 encouraged the President at the time to move it to the 4th Thursday instead.
