Sony restructuring closes Minokama factory (iLC lenses, lens blocks and phone lenses)
Sony continues to try to right the ship. Their latest rearranging of the financial chairs includes the closure of a Minokama factory in Japan which makes interchangeable lens camera lenses, lens blocks and mobile device lenses. The company will also reduce their Tokyo HQ employees by 2,000 people through an early retirement plan. The lens manufacturing function will be "absorbed" by two different Sony facilities: lenses for interchangeable lens cameras and lens blocks will move to Kohda (Aichi Prefecture), lenses for mobile devices will move to Kisarazu. The closing Minokama facility employed 840 people.
