New (quietly announced) camera: Sony Cybershot H100 superzoom
@Aafuss strikes again with another quietly announced new digital camera, it is the new Sony Cybershot H100, a 16-megapixel 1/2.3" CCD sensor superzoom with a 21x stabilized zoom lens (25-525mm eq), 720p video, 3-inch LCD, SDHC/MemoryStick, etc. Details at Sony Latvia and Sony India et al.
If the name sounds vaguely familiar, it is not what you think. This is a new model, expected to start shipping in mid-October-2012. This should not be confused with the January-2011 announced CMOS-powered Sony Cybershot HX100v (announcement, reviews).
Market Numbers recap
This new H100 has been added to the Cameras of 2012 reference page, bringing the total new superzooms to 73 out of a total of 218 new digital camera models announced in 2012 by the major camera manufacturers. This (along with the Samsung Galaxy Android which we forgot to add earlier on) increase the percentage of superzooms among fixed lens digital cameras to 41% (73 out of 178).
This is another indicator of the extent of the new camera flood. Now even intermediate level superzoom models are being ushered in without much fanfare. At this rate, it is perhaps only a matter of time before this starts happening to interchangeable lens cameras (a jump the shark moment? *cringe*).
