Auction: National Geographic Collection - the Art of Exploration (includes iconic NGeo Afghan Girl by Steve McCurry)

The National Geographic Society is partnering with Christie's to auction 240 photographs from the 1800s until today. These include a number of iconic photographs, including the famous with National Geographic fans "Afghan Girl" by Steve McCurry. Yahoo News has a slideshow of eight of the pictures that will be auctioned. Interestingly, the "Afghan Girl" iconic photograph by Steve McCurry is "estimated" to fetch only $30K to $50K. We are obviously not auction gurus, but that sounds like a low number?

The auction will take place on December 6, 2012 at the Rockefeller Center in New York. It is sale #2603. See the Christies calendar for more. Viewing times are December 1-5, 2012.
