Shock! Google buys Nik Software (makers of Snapseed, Capture NX2, Viveza, etc)
I don't know if they planned it to coincide with the Photokina trade show (see big box at the top of the blog for all the updates), but Google has made a big announcement in the world of digital imaging, especially mobile photography. They have purchased Nik Software, the makers of the popular app Snapseed (iTunes) along with a number of other digital imaging desktop software (Capture NX2, Viveza, Color Efex, etc).
Needless to say, the speculation is that this was triggered by the purchase of Instagram by Facebook. As you may recall recalling, Google also bought Picasa a while back and more recently they bought Picnic. Google buys a lot of companies! See most of them in the left sidebar at AOL Crunchbase.
Hmmm, is that why Snapseed was offered as the free app of the week a few weeks ago at iTunes? :-)
