Memory Card Wars in the future? (xQD vs CFast 2.0?)
Who needs new memory cards wars? I don't know, probably not photographers. Who is getting them? Perhaps we are!
The xQD memory card raised quite a few eyebrows when it was announced. Now Sandisk has proclaimed that they are not interested in xQD and will instead focus on the Compactflash Association's upcoming CFast 2.0, which promises theoretical speeds up to 600MB/sec. Sandisk is flirting with Canon and Phase One on this.
CFast 2.0 is under development, but xQD can point to a 1-0 scoreboard at the moment. The Nikon D4 dSLR uses the xQD memory card. Grumpy jaded cynics may perhaps ask how much did they pay Nikon to put an xQD slot in the D4? :)
