As the Kodak bankruptcy world turns: Consumer Printing on Exit Orbit
The perhaps desperate attempt to save the salvageable parts of Kodak continues with the company shedding and pruning left and right. Today Kodak has announced their plans to wind down and then exit the consumer printing business. Existing products will continue to be supported and ink will continue to flow. Presumably in a "managed shutdown zero" fashion. Keep that in mind if you are planning to purchase Kodak printers or if you see them at great discounts at retail.
It is quite telling on the profitability of this segment that Kodak's decision to exit is expected/estimated/hoped to "significantly improve" their cash flow.
Among their post-bankruptcy achievements so far, Kodak claims success on this, among many others: "Actions to exit or sell unprofitable and declining businesses, such as the digital camera and on-line photo services businesses".
