Olympus E-M5 sensor made by Sony [updated/corrected]
The sensor for the Olympus E-M5 was made by Sony, according to a comment made by an Olympus fearless leader quoted on Yahoo Japan. One of the veteran dpreview forum users who understands Japanese distilled the Japanese text in English.
UPDATE/CORRECTION: The article is available at Yahoo Japan (computer-translated). The original post said the article could not be found but apparently it was user/browser error. Thanks to OneGuyKS for the alert!
Opinions
The Sony sensor people appear to be more than happy to take any and all customers, even if that means helping a different manufacturer "defeat" their own cameras.
This perhaps may suggest more cracks in the M43rds alliance, as Panasonic was hoarding the latest "good" sensors, essentially keeping Olympus down. Perhaps that is why Olympus did not release the OM-D line until they were able to procure a better sensor?
And what does this say about Panasonic when through their actions they essentially force their biggest M43rds ally to run to Sony in order to get a better sensor? With friends like Panasonic...
