Sony to invest 80 billion yen in CMOS imaging sensor production capacity [corrected]
While the 50 billion Sony-to-Olympus yen may be a big number, this is not the biggest amount Sony is mentioned as spending - today. In an official press release on the Sony corporate website, the company revealed that they are planning to invest 80 billion yen to increase production capacity for stacked CMOS image sensors. With this investment, Sony plans to increase production capacity to 60,000 wafers per month by September 2013. (not chocolate wafers!) [via Fly On The Wall]
CORRECTION: the $ (dollar sign) has been removed from the billion yen amounts. It is one of the "biological macros" of typing (for lack of a better term) - when you type $-amount a million times, you don't even realize you are doing it. Thanks to Ranger9 and Bobby for the alert!
