New Superzoom Announcement: Samsung WB100 (26x, 16mp, AA power)
The catch-up-a-thon continues! We have a new camera announcement in Europe, the Samsung WB100, a AA-powered superzoom with a 26x stabilized lens (around 24-580mm eq) and a 16mp 1/2.3" CCD sensor which means 720p video (no 1080p), and a starting price of 220euro.
Does the model name sound familiar? It turns out, it was previously used for a different Samsung camera! Back in February of 2009, Samsung announced the TL320/WB100 digital camera, a compact P&S with analog gauges at the top.
This was bound to happen. So many new models announced left and right, it was only a matter of time before the camera manufacturer's marketing department got confused and gave the camera the same name. It was only three years ago!
Yet another sign of the current out-of-control release-for-the-sake-of-release wave :)
This new camera has been added to the list of Cameras of 2012. The total is 161 so far this year, and I am sure there are a few more shiny silver clones out in the wild that haven't been caught yet. And this is only mid-June on a Photokina year :)
