The Connected Camera (baby steps edition): Panasonic FX90 gets its own app

In perhaps a sign of the shape of things to come in the next few weeks/months/years, Panasonic has announced brand new Android and iTunes apps for the Panasonic FX90 P&S digital camera, in conjunction with a new firmware update. The combination of the app and new firmware will give you some control over the camera through the apps. Baby steps because this is only and specifically for the Panasonic FX90 digital camera.

Firmware details and downloads from Panasonic Japan. The apps are available at iTunes and Android Market (I will never ever call it Google Play - it's a silly name that doesn't have staying power!)

The camera itself is not important as much as it is the trend and the direction that things are slowly, reluctantly and hesitantly going, but still going. Photography super-guru Thom Hogan has been reading the camera manufacturers the riot act on embracing connectivity, but apparently the camera manufacturers are giant boats (if not icebergs) that can only turn 1-degree per year.

The Lumix FX90 was announced in August of 2011.
