Shipping News: US Post Office to stop shipping items with lithium batteries internationally
Starting May 16, 2012, if you are outside the United States and you are planning to buy digital cameras with lithium ion batteries from the USA, or if you are inside the US and planning to send digital cameras with lithium ion batteries outside the country, you can no longer do this using USPS (US Postal Service). This is because the USPS is banning the shipping of lithium ion batteries because they are considered a fire hazard. But there is hope for the future, quote the USPS statement: "anticipates that on January 1, 2013, customers will be able to mail specific quantities of lithium batteries internationally". A perfectly bureaucratic deadline, missing the whole of the 2012 holiday shopping season. Sir Humphrey would be most proud.
You can still ship digital cameras (and other items with lithium batteries) from and to the US using private firms like Federal Express, UPS, DHL, etc.
