SXSW surprise: Digital Bolex (2K RAW, CinemaDNG, Kodak CCD) for $2500
SXSW (South by Southwest) in Austin::Texas (the San Francisco of the Southwest when it comes to the arts and the creatives) is not typically the place one expects to find new digital camera announcements, but at the 2012 SXSW, Bolex of Switzerland announced the Digital Bolex, a 2K RAW video camera with a Kodak CCD sensor, Adobe CinemaDNG, and a very modest starting price of $2,500, with the first batch coming out around August 2012. You can find the main specs in a PDF file at the Digital Bolex website. The sensor is a 12.85mm by 9.64mm Kodak CCD, 5.5 micron, up to 32fps at 2K (60fps at 720p), 2.4-inch 320x240 viewfinder, dual Compact Flash slots, SSD buffer, ISO choices of 100, 200 and 400, 5lbs. Mount-wise, the standard is the C-mount, with options for PL-, EF-, B4.
