Sony slaps 41mp Nokia cameraphone as "development" and "old tech"
With imaging sensors being one of Sony's businesses, perhaps the company is overly sensitive to sensor competition, which may perhaps explain the rather "diva" comments they made to Tech Radar, calling the recently announced 41mp Nokia cameraphone a "development announcement" and "old tech". Meow! (via Pocket Lint)
While everyone and their grandmother has heard by now that "more megapixels is not necessarily better", there is always the "more is better" undercurrent. Sony is more modest in their megapixelation, with their APS-C sensors staircased at 16-megapixels and 24-megapixels, and their latest 35mmFF sensor at 32-megapixels. Notice a pattern? Steps of eight! With the 41-megapixel (and smaller) sensor, Nokia is winning the "horsepower" battle, which may perhaps be making Sony nervous/anxious ;-)
