Rumors: Canon working on a "Super G-series" camera? (perhaps to compete with mirrorless?)
On his personal blog, Valentin Sama of DSLR Magazine wrote that Canon is working on a Super G-series camera (computer-translated). This will not be a sequential update but a more advanced type of a camera, which could perhaps be designed to compete with the mirrorless market. Canon is the only major interchangeable camera system manufacturer that does not have a mirrorless camera system either released (Nikon, Sony, Samsung, Olympus, Panasonic, Ricoh, Pentax, Kenko), or pre-announced (Fuji, Leica). Please note this is not an official announcement!
Perhaps related or in anticipation of, the price of the Canon G12 has been a falling knife the last few days, going as low as $300 at Fry's brick and mortar, and $338 in last night's midnight madness sale. Before that, it dropped to $380 at some major retailers. And before that discount, the G12 was steadily and stubbornly above $400. (This of course could also be a pure coincidence)
