The wave of new quietly announced/released cameras continues with a new compact-zoom from Olympus and a new basic P&S from Fuji!
+ Press release at Olympus Global (via Foto Actualidad)
+ also at DC Watch Impress
+ 12.5x optical zoom starting at 24mm equivalent with sensor-shift stabilization
+ 16mp backlit CMOS sensor (presumably 1/2.3") with up to 7fps full-size
+ 3-inch LCD (460 kilodots)
+ full HD video MPEG-4 AVC/H.264
+ this is a basic 10mp 3X (38-114mm eq) optical zoom P&S camera, with 2.4" LCD, VGA video, AA-powered, etc.
+ I ran into this while checking the eBay Daily Deals (of all places)
+ basic specs at the eBay listing and the Buy.com listing
+ I have no idea when it was initially released
+ fun factoid: searching for the camera's UPC code on Google Products yields a jar of strawberries in light syrup (instead of the camera)
Close to 200 new cameras this year
+ these two take us to 194 new digital cameras in 2011, 53 of which have a zoom ratio of 10X or more, and 21 of which are of the interchangeable lens variety
+ when you do the math, almost 1 in every 3 fixed lens cameras announced this year has a zoom ratio of 10X or more
