New Sigma DP2x - the sixth Foveon-based fixed-lens DP-series camera
At first you may not even realize this is actually a new model, but it is! The new Sigma DP2x is Sigma's sixth fixed-lens Foveon-powered DP-series digital camera, and the third in the DP2-series. The model names follow the same scheme as the DP1: DP2, DP2s, DP2x.
The press release promises faster autofocus and AFE (analog front end), which refers to how color data is converted to a digital signal (not analog dials and such on the camera body as some may have wished). The sensor is 20.7mm x 13.8mm with 7.8um pixels, TRUE II engine, etc, etc, etc.
As usual with Sigma announcements, availability and prices are a frustrating mystery. We don't even know if it is going to make it outside Japan. As of the time of writing it is not mentioned at dpreview or Imaging Resource or Foveonesque Rytterfalk.
