JVC planning to launch 4K consumer video camcorder at CES 2011 [corrected]
Oops, this is not a rumor! It is coming directly from JVC! JVC is planning to introduce a consumer-tier 4K video camera in the Everio line at CES 2011. See more via Image Sensors World, Akihabara News, Electronista (via Cinescopophilia via Cameratown), etc, etc. And if JVC is doing it, the chances are a number of other consumer electronics manufacturers will follow or announce similar products in parallel.
Which brings us to DSLRs/iLCs. With HD-Video becoming more integral to DSLRs, it will be interesting to see whether we will start seeing 4K video in DSLRs as well. And if yes, this likely means a new round of sensors and image processing engines to handle the additional data flow. Unless they pull a "Pentax K-5 buffer depth increase" and issue a firmware update to upgrade to 4K video :-) [very unlikely, unless the capability was there and they just did not turn it on]
