Goodbye Pentax, Sincerely... Cosina [revisited]
This (Cosina-Voigtlander giving up on the K-mount) was apparently announced quietly in Japan during the pre-Photokina madness, and it looks like it may have been flying under the radar or got lost in the shuffle, although it was discussed in some Pentax circles - eg Rice High.
This actually came before the Zeiss announcement at Photokina time that they were going to stop making ZK (manual focus K-mount SLR lenses), but because it is Zeiss and not unglorified Cosina, it got a lot more attention.
But there is a new round of action on the Voigtlander-leaving-K-mount at Photoscala, Photography Blog et al...
The "timing the market" for Cosina is a bit off, since the K-mount is actually starting to pick up momentum again with the K-x, K-5 and the all-important trickle-down/tide-lifts-all-boats effect of "Big Daddy" 645D.
