Review Train (S95 vs LX5 vs EX1, Pentax K-5, D7000 noise, NX100, A33, P7000, etc)
It is raining hot-camera action today! We start with a 3-way comparison at Quesabesde between the Canon S95, Panasonic LX5 and Samsung EX1/TL500, three compact-compact serious compacts! The first part of the review includes plenty of camera body hands-on pictures and the second part includes plenty of samples, including RAW and head to head comparisons!
The new Dxo Darlings
Yesterday Focus Numerique posted their Pentax K-5 noise set, today they have posted the Nikon D7000 noise set (includes K-5, 60D and A55). As you may recall, the D7000 and K-5 generated excitement/debate/interest after their DxoMark RAW sensor results came out. But not everyone is drinking the DR results KoolAid. Rice High chimes in on the Oleg V. post at the dpreview forums saying that the Sony sensors are using tricks to get a higher score. We blog, you pixel-peep-o-decide! Speaking of the Nikon D7000, its w/18-105mm kit is (as of the time of writing) in-stock and shipping for $1500. See D7000 stock status page for details.
Meanwhile, the other 16mp Sony-sensor dSLR, the Pentax K-5 has been reviewed at DC Watch Impress (computer-translated), which includes plenty of full-size JPEG samples, including five sets of ISO-range tests (80-51200) with different NR settings (auto, off, weak, intermediate, high). Speaking of the K-5, Pentaxian Yvon Bourque writes on his blog that his Pentax K-5 e-book is almost completed!
Testing New Firmware
This is one aspect of "reviewalia" that doesn't get as much attention, but Japanese website DC Watch Impress is paying attention! They have just tested the new firmware of the Ricoh GRD III - to check out the high-contrast b+w and cross process. As usual, they have full-size JPEG samples when you click on the individual sample pictures.
DSLRs and iLCs
Mirror mirror not-in-the-camera, who is the prettiest mirrorless camera of all? Well, we don't have an answer for that, but there is a new review of the Samsung NX-100 at Photography Blog and as usual they offer plenty of real-world full-size JPEG and RAW (.srw) sample pictures for evaluation purposes. Labbing away with the NX-100 is Camera Labs and they have posted some initial movie samples.
Once upon a time in-love, now Samsung and Pentax are just friends ;-) The latter has a new review out, the K-r is getting tested out at Photo Radars.
If you like reviews with lots of real-world pictures, Steve Huff Photo has a new review of the Sony Alpha A33, the 14mp lieutenant of the pellicle-mirror cameras.
The Nikon D3100 is stock-piling reviews! A new one is out at Photography Bay.
