Pentax K-r gets first review-site review [also: Pentax interview at PPE 2010]
The new Pentax K-r has received its first review-site review at Photography Blog. As usual, PB has a variety of real world samples, both full size JPEG and RAW (.pef) for your pixel-peep-evaluation. Conclusions are on the last page and as usual, we won't spill the review beans here.
The K-r is in the hands of photographers out there so if you visit the aforementioned forums you will find more hands-on action and impressions, including this K-x vs K-r autofocus test and first impressions on using the K-r manual lenses.
Speaking of Pentax, Enticing the Light visited the Pentax booth at Photo Plus Expo 2010 and interviewed Ned Bunnell as well who explains why he hasn't been updating his blog. He also has some promising news for Pentaxians, a return to some brick and mortar stores. Some interesting photographer-priority topics are included so it is a highly recommended reading!
Some Pentax K-r kits have began shipping at their opening prices, which are around three price stops (one price stop = $100) above the K-x kits at the moment. But there are some good news, Pentax has launched a $100 prepaid VISA card mail-in rebate for the K-r and K-5 (October 28 to November 6). You can find the rebate on the product pages of participating camera kits at B&H Photo and other retailers.
PS: More updates are coming up later today, including a review round-up and PhotoPlus Expo round-up. For the first time in many many many months we took a weekend off, and it feels like we fell behind the latest news by half a week!
