Kuwait bans public use of DSLRs by non-journalists
Duck Rabbit rounds up some rather disturbing news for photographers in Kuwait. Three ministries there have decided to ban the use of DSLRs in public spaces by people who are not proper photojournalists! The english-speaking Kuwait Times writes about the implications of the ban.
Amateur Photographer UK is waiting to hear from the British Embassy in Kuwait on this issue.
More coverage of this at Imaging Insider, BJoP, Quesabesde, The NeXT web, and Pocket Lint which notes this would also affect tourists and visitors.
I am sure a few of the elitist photographers in the forums, those who get irritated whenever they see someone they perceive as "not one of us" with a professional/advanced DSLR, will rub their hands with glee ;-)
