Epson may return to the camera market [Epson said]
Epson representatives were interviewed at Amateur Photographer UK and they revealed they may return to the digital camera market in the future under the right circumstances. They also said they are planning lots of new products. The last time they were "active" in the digital camera market was February 2009 when they announced a newer Japan-only edition/refinement of the Epson R-D1, the RD1xG.
Speculation
Are they reading the tea leaves in the Japanese market and think they can jump onto the mirrorless bandwagon? According to recent data from BCNRanking, mirrorless cameras have 30%+ market share in Japan and Epson's R-D1 has been a Japan-priority camera.
If yes, would they go for one of the new mirrorless mounts for wider appeal? Or try their hand at a more affordable (or more accurately, less expensive) M-mount camera for a more $niche$ market?
