High-profile switches: one to Nikon, one to Canon
Photographers have a very complicated relationship with their gear, and as with everything, things change over time, both the gear and photographic needs. So, as painful as it may be, switching brands and lens mounts is not uncommon. Today we have two high-profile switches!
Photographer, author and blogger David duChemin has an article on his blog explaining his switch to Nikon. He lists three main reasons and three auxiliary reasons why he is switching. He is also becoming sponsored by Sigma lenses, but that should not be a factor since Shiguma lenses are available for both Canon and Nikon. If you are not familiar with duChemin's books, you can check them out on Amazon. You can even start reading them (for free) on the Kindle or on the Kindle app (PC, Mac, iPhone/iPad, Android, Blackberry).
Canon lost one above, but they gained a new photographer - Alpha Mount World says that the 7D landed, the Canon 7D, ending their Canon-vs-Nikon debate. Sony has released a record-breaking number of interchangeable lens cameras since CES 2008 (total of 20), however, they did a very poor job of communicating their plans for the high-end of the market (A700 and beyond), and photographers cannot wait forever or put their projects/assignments on hold forever.
