Nikon D7000 is now officially announced - can it shake up the DSLR world?

As usual, the leak has become a lake, concluding with the official announcement of the Nikon D7000! The camera features a 16mp APS-C CMOS sensor, with the Expeed 2 engine and it is the second highest megapixel camera in the history of Nikon, and the highest with an APS-C sensor.

You can get to all the features and detailed specs in the previews and announcement pages below, so we will only mention some of the highlights here...

The sensor is just slightly smaller, 23.6x15.6 instead of 23.6x15.8 but I doubt this will make any difference (see table at bottom of DC Watch Impress page linked below). Dpreview shows all three (D7000, D90, D300s) at 23.1x15.4

Amazon has already began accepting D7000 pre-orders for $1200 (body only) and $1500 (w/18-105mm DX VR). For more options, be sure to check the brand new Nikon D7000 stock-status page.

Prices and Availability
In the US market, the camera is available for pre-order at Amazon as follows...
+ D7000 body only for $1200
+ D7000 w/18-105mm DX VR for $1500

If it wasn't for the economy, I am guessing the "profiteers" would have had a field-day when it initially started trickling out. The camera is listed at B&H Photo but they are not accepting pre-orders as of the time of writing.

The camera is expected to come out in Japan in late October for 140 kiloyen. The Japanese market will also get D7000 kits with the 18-105mm DX VR and 18-200mm DX VR II lenses. Prices of those kits not mentioned.
