New Nikon S1100pj (w/built-in projector) and S5100 Coolpixies
Nikon has just revealed two new Coolpix model, the S1100pj being their second camera with a built-in projector, and the Coolpix S5100, one more LiIon P&S. The S1100pj jumps on the 14mp 1/2.3" sensor bandwagon, but obviously the built-in projector feature is the point of interest. It projects an image up to 47-inches, at a distance of up to 7 feet and 10 inches. You can even play "John Madden" by "drawing" on the camera's touch-screen and your "drawing" shown on the projected image. Also of interest for the road-warriors, you can connect the camera to your computer's USB port, and project whatever is on your computer-screen!
One of the sub-currents in the marketing wars is now an escalation in the stabilization numbers. This new camera offers "5-way VR". It is optical lens-shift (this is a folded-optics lens). Speaking of the lens, it is a 5X with the versatile 28-140mm (eq) focal range.
Other features include a 3-inch touchscreen, as close as 1.2 inch macro, 220 CIPA with the EN-EL12 LiIon battery, 720p video, and the usual assortment of face, blink, beauty, red-eye, and such.
The camera will arrive around September with an opening price of $350 and your choice of four body colors. Amazon is already accepting S1100pj pre-orders for it. The current model, the S1000pj, goes for around $220 at the moment.
So what about the Coolpix S5100? Well, there's not much to say, it is just another LiIon-based P&S camera. with a 12mp 1/2.3" sensor, 5X optical zoom, 720p video, 2.7" LCD display, and an estimated October release in your choice of four body-colors with an opening price of $180.
We should note, these have not been announced in Japan, which probably means there is at least one more announcement event! [NEW!]
