Curiosity-factor: Casio EX-FH100 review at Photography Blog
Time for a curiosity-factor review! This time it is the Casio EX-FH100, a 2010 model year (no, we are not talking about cars) 10X backlit-CMOS compact-zoom camera. The review is out at Photography Blog, and as usual they have plenty of full-size JPEG and also a dozen RAW real-world sample pictures. As usual, we won't spoil the findings here.
As usual, the camera is shipping as usual at multiple retailers including Amazon for around $300. The current compact-zoom environment is very competitive as more manufacturers with more models and features have entered the field. It will be interesting to see what type of a discounting "blood bath" we will get in November when the Holiday Shopping Season of 2010 begins, as these cameras would be hot gift items, especially for consumers who already have a basic 3X P&S camera (or can get similar limited-zoom functionality from their smartphone). Perhaps these compact-zooms are the ultimate defense of P&S cameras by their manufacturers against evolving cameraphones. As Lightscrape witnessed first-hand, Nokia is already making (exaggerated) noise (no pun intended) about significantly improving the image quality of cameraphones.
