Pentax seriously considering joining Micro Four Thirds?
Cateto's blog notes a post at the blog of Valentin Sama who writes that according to his sources, Pentax is seriously considering joining Micro Four Thirds.
As usual, unless something is officially announced or leaked beyond reasonable doubt, please treat it as rumors/speculation/prediction/etc.
Comment/Opinion/etc
A few months ago this possibility may have not made sense, but now things have changed. Samsung proceeded with the NX-series without the involvement of Pentax in any way. Mirrorless cameras (mostly thanks to Micro 4/3rds so far) have picked up momentum, with Sony gearing up for an official announcement sometime this year, perhaps even before June.
So Pentax has choices:
1. ignore mirrorless cameras
2. join an existing system
3. create their own
Option #3, considering their finances and what the Hoya bosses have said in the past, seems very unlikely. Option #1 is possible but Pentax has been one of the most open-minded of the traditional SLR manufacturers the last few years, so I am sure they can see that the mirrorless segment is going to grow.
The most reasonable option would have been for them to join Samsung's NX system - because of their co-operation on DSLRs. But since Samsung went NX-solo, perhaps Micro Four Thirds becomes the most viable (and available) option for Pentax.
If nothing else, it could be a marriage of convenience for both parties - Micro Four Thirds would get bigger and it will need that as it will have to fend off Sony and possibly Canon/Nikon in the future.
And may be with Pentax on-board, M43rds fans may finally get a more diverse and more populous lens line-up. But it's not going to start raining pancakes and limiteds overnight, is it? :)

Rice High opines on this rumor and says it is very unlikely.
