Sony A850: new reviews, inside the stabilization, and firmware rumors

Don't you forget about me sings the Sony Alpha A850! It may not be the fastest or sexiest DSLR/iLC out there, but it is the lowest priced 35mmFF digital camera out of the box and it has plenty of megapixels for those who need them. So time to recap some of the action.

We start with two reviews, one at Digital Camera Review with Thenao Nikitas and another a very short one at Kamera & Bild. As usual, we won't spoil their findings here.

Next up, the Pop Photo Flash blog shows and briefly explains the image stabilization mechanism of the A850 and A900. As you may recall, once upon a time some people insisted that sensor-shift stabilization was near impossible with a 35mm full frame chip. Sony perhaps deserves more credit for coming up with this. Currently they are the only ones to offer sensor-shift stabilization at 35mmFF.

And we close with firmware update rumors coming from Sony Alpha Rumors. No specifics yet, but the rumors say "major" update. Stay tuned for more!

For more on the camera, be sure to check its list of reviews. Pricewise, the camera remains steady at $2000, however, Adorama is offering a free 8gb Extreme IV CF card and camera bag with it.
