New Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di VC USD (35mm full frame) lens (development notice)
TamRon celebrates their 60th anniversary with a brand new lens series, featuring USD. No, they are not putting US Dollars inside the lens, USD stands for Ultrasonic Silent Drive, not to be confused with USM. The lens, 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di VC USD, official model name A005, will be available in Nikon flava, followed by Canon and Sony Alpha which will NOT include "VC". It looks like Tamron has not learned the lesson from their friends at Shiguma - leave the image stabilization in!!!
This is a 35mm full frame lens, which means on the typical 1.5X DSLR you roughly get 100-450mm. The numbers in the Tamron press release use a 1.55X multiplier. We do not know if they are averaging it out, or they will make microadjustments to the different lens versions to have them all at 1.55X. They also offer full-time manual focus as outlined in their development notice:
"Full time manual offers just that: the crossover from auto-focus to manual focus by simply adjusting the focus ring, allowing the photographer to make adjustments on the fly."
The other specs are:
+ 17 elements in 12 groups
+ 62mm filter
+ 59.1" minimum focusing distance
+ nine diaphragm blades
+ lens length 5.6" inches
+ weight 27oz
Price and availability have not been revealed yet (this is a development notice, not a formal product announcement)...
