New Pentax W90 tries sexy outdoorsy color scheme and 720p video

Pentax was in the waterproof and elementproof long before many of the bigger names, and they had a mixed bag of results. Last year, the W80 got selected as one of the "Worst five of 09" at Digital Camera HQ, while its predecessor, the W60 (2008 model) held its own in the dpreview group test and finished third.

So now Pentax hopes for better with the new W90, which has a 12mp 1/2.3" sensor, a 5X folded-optics (28-140mm eq) lens, waterproof (20ft), dust-bunnies-proof, freeze-proof (14 Fahren.), drop-proof (4ft), 2.7" (230K) LCD, and things like that. It jumps on the 720p video bandwagon. It uses SD/SDHC, and takes the D-LI88 battery. Of accessory interest, there will be an optional waterproof remote control.

The camera is available for pre-order at Amazon for $330 in April 2010, in pistachio-green (their name, not ours!), and black. The European price is the same number but different currency (Euro).
