New Sony A550 reviews at DC Resource, CNet, Register Hardware
We managed to break the Canon filibuster now that we got 550 votes from the Party of Sony. New reviews for the Alpha A550 have just come out, starting with DC Resource. Please note that when reading DC Resource reviews, when they say "performance", they usually mean the measureable/timings of the camera, not overall performance as in how the camera does in general.
Next up, a review at CNet SF. CNet includes an ISO crop comparison which is camouflaged in the left sidebar of page #2 of their review.
One more review that came out pre-burst-mode but we have yet to mention is the one at the technology site Register Hardware.
And we close with a bonus in-concert high-ISO set (out of camera JPEGs) posted by a photographer in the dpreview forums.
The list of reviews for the camera has started to fill up now, with over a dozen of them in the books.
In terms of pricing, Sony DSLRs have the disadvantage of fixed prices "imposed" by Sony on its favorite retailers (with friends like that...). Without the free market being free to adjust prices, Sony is losing potential sales to comparison-shoppers who often pick up a different-brand DSLR because it's on a special. The current prices at Amazon et al are $900 and $1000 for the body-only and 18-55 kits. Yes, that's $100 more than the just-announced Canon T2i/550D.
