New Olympus SP800uz (30X) and SP600uz (15X) superzooms
Zoom-zoom for Olympus! The new SP800uz jumps to a 30X zoom lens (28-840mm eq), while the SP600uz has a more modest 15X zoom lens (28-420mm eq) with 14 and 12 megapixels respectively. Both take SD/SDHC memory cards, and include on-board memory (2gb and 1gb respectively), perhaps to make the transition easier for hardcore xD fans.
As you can see from the model names, Olympus is rebooting their superzoom scheme, after they ran out of names with the 26X SP590uz at CES 2009.
A 14m 1/2.3" sensor is matched with a big 30X superzoom lens with a 28-840mm equivalent focal range. Other features include 720p video, 3-inch LCD display,
The camera will come out in March with a modest opening price of $350 - compare that to the 30X megazoom Fuji HS10 which starts at $500 (but has RAW, backlit sensor, etc).
The camera is now available for pre-order at Amazon for $350.
This camera has a 2.7-inch LCD, and it is intended to be a more affordable alternative. It takes AA batteries which have a history with Olympus digital cameras. This camera is expected to come out next month with an opening price of $250.
