New Canon SD3500 IS offers 5X wide (24-120mm) and 3.5-inch touchscreen
The last of the new Canon cameras of today is the 3.5-inch touch-screen bearing SD3500 IS which throws a new wrench in the model naming scheme :) It also goes by the name IXUS 210. The sensor is sadly the 14mp 1/2.3" but as a plus, it has a 5X stabilized lens that starts at 24mm wide. So a 24-120mm equivalent is not bad (but please don't expect it to behave like an SLR-sized lens of the same focal range). This follows up just six months after the debut of the SD980 IS which offered a 3-inch touchscreen with a similar lens.
Other features include 720p video, HDMI-out, modes galore, and the NB-6L LiIon battery.
Interestingly, if you look at the Canon product page hierarchy (see link below), the SD3500 IS is placed between the SD970-IS and the SD980-IS. The SD970 has a 5X lens that starts at 37mm eq and was announced almost one year ago. Perhaps ordered by price within each sub-segment.
The camera is available for pre-order at Amazon for $330 in your choice of silver, black or pink.
