Contests and giveaways roundup
This appears to be contest and giveaway season, so it is time to round some of them up for fans of competitions and/or giveaways! There is a variety, some are photography-submission contents, others are gear giveaways.
Adorama has a brand new iPhone photography contest, which involves taking an iPhone picture, editing it using iPhone apps, and then submitting it. The prizes include a $1000 Adorama gift certificate, Wacom tablets, Canon wireless printers, $100 Adorama gift certificates, Jarvis and Kelby-White iPhone books, and more! On top of that, the judges include well-known online photographers such as Joe McNally, The Moose, Syl Arena and the king of multimedia Scott Kelby. Entries must be submitted by 10pm NYC time on February 16, 2010. UPDATE: Syl Arena, one of the contest-judges has an update - the contest has been extended until February 28.
We continue with the Photocrati Fund, which plans to give the winning photographer $5000 to spend on a humanitarian or environmental project. Submissions are accepted until March 15, 2010, so there's plenty of time to plan ahead.
There are two contests currently live at Mu-43.com. The black+white contest closes on March 1 with cold-hard-cash prizes ($100, $50, $25) and the "RAW development contest" with a Lightzone software license as the prize.
The PentaxForums are running the Panoramic View contest open to registered forum users. The prizes include gear, software and Pentax e-books by Yvon Bourque! If you are not a registered forum user, you can read the contest details via Photography Blog.
The free online magazine PhotographyBB is running an experts vs beginners challenge and the winners will receive Photoshop Actions and photography books among other prizes.
Next up, the Imaging Insider notes the new Tamron "Dusk til Dawn" contest is ending on March 31st, with the grand prize being a Tamron lens of your choice among four selections.
Moving along, Chase Jarvis and Sandisk have a snowboarding/skiing themed contest, with the winner receiving $5000. Chase Jarvis and magazine peoples will be the judges, so be sure to be nice to them ;-)
And we close with a number of giveaways at Photofocus, including a Canon 5D Mark II, Nikon D300s, Apple iPad, Lensbabies and more. Many of the giveaways center around Twitter and to enter you typically have to retweet the promotion. The idea is that Photofocus and their sponsors get free advertising, and you get a chance at winning a big prize.
These are just some of the contests and giveaways that found us or we run into while browsing around. There are plenty more contests underway on the interwebs! This post is not intended to be a comprehensive listing!
