Thom analyzes market shares (and Pentax K-x finishes #3 in Japan for December 2009)

Thom Hogan is back with a January 14, 2010 commentary on his website, digesting the compact digital camera market shares for 2009 in Japan as posted by BCN Ranking. He also charts the DSLR Canon vs Nikon market-share battle going back to 2005. There is definitely movement in the chart! Please keep in mind that the Japanese market, when compared to the rest of the world, has a mind of its own, and what's popular in Japan, is not necessarily popular elsewhere.

Speaking of popular in Japan, Pentaxians will be throwing 100-color parties around the world, as the K-x with its 100 Japanese colors finished third in market-share in Japan for December 2009 with 7.9%, just ahead of "La Resistance" partner Panasonic GF1 which had 7.4%, and the trusty Nikon D90. Again, please note that the Japanese market is unique and the trends there are not necessarily indicative of the rest of the world.
