New Panasonic TZ8 (ZS5) is a new affordable fun-zoom (replaces TZ6 (ZS1))

The Panasonic TZ-series cameras come in pairs, and the new TZ8 (ZS5) is the deputy once again, replacing the TZ6 (ZS1) model of 2009.

Thankfully Panasonic showed megapixel-restraint, although we assume not necessarily by choice considering the "squeeze" of a compact superzoom like this and more importantly the multi-aspect sensor feature. So this camera has a 12mp 1/2.3" sensor instead of the 14mp sensor.

The lens is a typical 12X (25-300mm eq) with PowerOIS, 2.7-inch LCD, 720p video with MJPEG, SDXC support, and things like that.

This camera has not been announced in Japan, even though the TZ10 (ZS7) was announced there.

Again, we have to grab Panasonic by the ear for using these globally-confusing camera names. Grrrrr!
